Highlights > Interview with Denis Develey, AXA Corporate Solutions’ chief hull and yacht underwriter

For personal reasons, Denis Develey, AXA Corporate Solutions’ chief hull and yacht underwriter, has expressed his intention to pursue new career options outside the insurance world. In this interview with the @sea international team, he looks back on his career.

For the younger people reading this, would you please remind them about your career ?
“I started my career in 1976 at « L’association Française de l’assurance Transport ». Then I joined “La Reunion Européenne” in 1984. Since 1995 I have been chief hull underwriter. In addition to my responsibilities within AXA Corporate Solutions, I have also chaired the FFSA hull committee, and act as a member of IUMI’s ocean hull committee. I am also member of the Board of Director of GAREX, the French war risks pool.”

Who will be your successor ? “From March 30th, Sylvain Gauden will be in charge of the marine hull division. Sylvain graduated from the French Merchant Marine Academy with a first-class captain dual-purpose degree (both deck and engine). He sailed as senior officer, mainly on large containerships, on various international trade routes. In 2001, he joined the French shipyard “Chantiers de l’Atlantique”, now STX France, as an after-sales service engineer where he was in charge of the contractual guarantee of delivered ships (navy frigates, cruiseships and LNGs). In 2005, he joined a shipowner’s technical department as superintendent in charge of four chemical tankers involved in North European water trading. In May 2006, he joined AXA CS, first as marine technical advisor for two-and-a-half years, and rapidly became senior regional hull underwriter in charge of different areas.

Regarding yachting activities, Roger Duchamp remains as the head of AXA Yachting Solutions.

I am certain that with the support of the existing teams they will both be very successful and I wish them a great success.”

All at AXA Corporate Solutions warmly thank Denis for his significant contribution to the profitable expansion of our marine book of business. Denis has consistently demonstrated the highest level of professionalism, commercial skills and dedication to the best interests of the company. His many personal qualities are also unanimously acknowledged by his colleagues and the market.
